Description
The Brian Piccolo School of excellence consisted of extensive masonry facade repairs and tuckpointing to repair the 100 year old and 50 year old additions to the west side of the building.
Facade repairs included demolishing heavy cornice stones and replacing them with sheet-metal framing and cladding that matched this historic facade and removed the extensive loads that were being imposed on the masonry. Other masonry repairs included tuckpointing, raising copings to meet roofing standards, lintel replacements, new sealants and flashings to correct the water infiltrations that have plagued the building over the years.
The other major improvement for this facility included removal and replacement of the whole roofing system to upgrade the facility to current roofing codes and warranty, but also so the school is able to begin re-using the abandoned 2nd and 3rd floors directly underneath the existing leaky roof systems.
In addition, there were upgrading improvements to the exhaust fans and rooftop HVAC equipment, LED roof lighting and cleaning out roof drains to improve water management, softer exterior site lighting and better air quality inside the facility.
Also, there were interior improvements that consisted of new plumbing fixtures, drinking fountains & sinks in classrooms/ bathrooms, new floor finishes, upgrading to modern theater curtains, and cosmetic painting/taping renovation to miscellaneous classrooms, corridors and offices that were damaged from water infiltration.
