GSCC began work on the new Student Services building for College of Lake County under CDB contract in the Fall of 2020 with learning space which will include a library, testing rooms, laboratories, a Welcome and One Stop Center, career offices, general education class rooms and a large multi purpose space complete with exterior terrace on the 5th Floor.
In addition to the new construction, the project will include 4,665 square feet of existing building renovation and improvements which include Child Care and Science Rooms in the 33 N. Genesse Building. The new building will also be linked to existing three story parking garage to its south and the three story existing campus building on 33 N. Genesse to its West.
The facade of the building will be made up of combination brick, concrete wall panels, high pressure laminate wall plank and glazed curtainwalls. The project has been designed with the intent to achieve US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certification. It will include such features as fritted bird strike on all installed glass, dynamic glazing for shading the east elevation glass curtainwall system, and photovoltaic electric panels located on the roof to harness solar power. New high efficient mechanical systems will include an Ultra Violet Light System on the main AHU to assist with cleaner air throughout the building.
Exterior improvements include upgraded electrical service for the new and existing buildings, a new layout to Madison Street on the north and new a courtyard to the North West complete with bike racks.
